The Criteria Employed by Ibn ʿAṭiyya al-Andalusi in Evaluating and Preferring Qurʾānic Readings: An Analytical Study in the Light of His Exegetical Methodology

Abstract
This study presents a systematic attempt to understand the principles of Tarjeeh, which
is the process of choosing the strongest opinion among the Qur’anic readings, according
to Ibn Atiyyah Al-Andalusi. It provides a balanced perspective that combines narration,
language, and meaning, highlighting the role of methodological criteria in Qur’anic Tafsir.
The present paper contributes in accentuating the methodologies of Andalusian scholars
in dealing with the diversity of Qur’anic readings.
