Abstract

The school textbook is considered the cornerstone of the teaching and learning process and a
central tool in achieving educational goals and developing learners’ competencies. In light of rapid
knowledge growth, digital transformation, and the evolution of learning theories, it is no longer
acceptable to rely on rigid curricula and textbooks that fail to keep pace with the demands of the
modern era. Hence, the importance of textbook evaluation emerges as a systematic critical process
aimed at diagnosing the reality of educational content, measuring its effectiveness, and identifying its
strengths and weaknesses, in preparation for its improvement and development. Evaluation is not
limited to judging the quality of paper or graphic design; rather, it extends to a deep analysis of the
suitability of objectives, the accuracy of content, the diversity of learning strategies, the fairness of
assessment, and the consideration of individual differences. Moreover, improving the school textbook
is not a one-time task, but an ongoing process that depends on feedback from the educational field,
data derived from learners’ performance, and best scientific practices. This study aims to present a
methodological framework for evaluating and improving the school textbook, based on
comprehensive quality standards, taking into account local specificities, and remaining open to
educational innovation, on the belief that investing in the quality of the school textbook is an
investment in the quality of educational outcomes and in building a knowledge society.
