Abstract

The clear influence of Western modernity was evident on literary genres and their types. The
novel, in particular, was the most affected literary genre by this influence, which made it more appealing to
readers. Therefore, Arab narratologists carried out a renewal and updating of narrative components in line
with the modern literary trend that encompasses the field of expression from the perspective of the
contemporary receiver, who has become ambitious and passionate about what is distinctive and different
in the novel. Among these modernists
was Naif Imam, the writer who created in the space of language a literary text dedicated to what is
distinctive in the novelistic space. He is the novelist Talal Mortada, the man who always worked for renewal
and innovation through his varied works, whether they were novels or stories or theatrical plays. We
focused on his theatrical works “The Moving Cage,” “The Strangers,” trying through them to explore what
attracted us in them by conducting a critical study based on a careful and well-founded reading of his works,
with the first modern narrative approach, descriptive analytical, comparative, and interpretative approach
to narrative criticism and analyzing his novel and its contexts. We also revealed all that is new, as well as
highlighted semantic and stylistic studies related to the topic of the novel. We will discover this through the
analysis of the novels. The results showed what the deep analysis of the narrative text reveals some hidden
meanings, which have been revealed in more detail through a personalized narrative perspective in view
of the research topic and his other works.
