Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the critical approach of Abdullah Rkibi, a pioneer of literary
criticism in Algeria, who sought to establish a critical vision linked to national identity
and cultural issues. It highlights his primary reliance on the historical-critical method,
while advocating for the integration of various approaches rather than limiting oneself
to a single method. This integration involves combining historical, social, and aesthetic
dimensions in textual analysis.
The article also reveals his reserved stance towards modern Western critical
methodologies, criticizing their neglect of the human and social context. He emphasizes
the necessity of utilizing these methodologies without compromising the distinctiveness
of Arabic literature. His approach is linked to the concept of critical commitment, as he
believes criticism should serve societal issues and reflect human experience.
The article concludes that Rkibi contributed to establishing a systematic critical
approach in Algeria based on the integration of various methodologies, with a relative
evolution in his positions regarding modern trends.
